Position Information

Fairy Meadow Demonstration School has an enrolment of 381 students, including 23% from a non-English speaking background and 34 Aboriginal students. The school has a preschool, mainstream and special education classes. It has a proud partnership with the Keira Community of Schools and is located in the Wollongong Principal Network. The school has a strong focus on explicit teaching and collaborative practice. Fairy Meadow Demonstration School has a long-standing relationship with the School of Education at the University of Wollongong, providing demonstration lessons and guest lecturing to undergraduate education students.

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with demonstrated ability to lead, model and implement evidence based practices with a strong focus on ensuring the continuous improvement of literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students. Visible, approachable leadership with outstanding organisation and communication skills to work collaboratively and build positive relationships that engage all levels of the school community. Demonstrated capacity to work closely with the Principal and the leadership team to embed explicit teaching practice coupled with the purposeful use of data to drive improvement in student outcomes. Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills to promote and strengthen a culture of wellbeing that supports all members of a diverse school community.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
