We are looking for a compassionate, skilled, and motivated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our busy GP surgery. The ideal candidate will be qualified in phlebotomy, experienced in wound care, and ideally have prior experience working in a primary care or general practice setting. You will support the clinical team in delivering high-quality care to patients by carrying out a range of clinical tasks and health checks.

Main duties of the job

Phlebotomy: Perform blood tests and sample collection.

Wound Care: Confident with dressings and management of minor wounds.

Health Checks: Support in patient health screenings and routine checks (e.g., blood pressure, ECG).

Chronic Disease Support: Assist with monitoring patients with long-term conditions.

Vaccinations: Administer immunisations as required.

Patient Care: Provide general assistance in the care of patients, ensuring comfort and wellbeing.

Clinical Support: Assist nurses and GPs during consultations and minor procedures.

System Management: Document patient information accurately using the SystemOne software.

About us

Seven Dials Medical Centre proudly serves just over 7,000patients in Brighton and Hove and has 14 members of staff including 3 GPPartners, an ACP, Practice Nurse and HCA. We work closely with the PCN to offerpatients access to Social Prescribers, Mental Health Co-ordinators, CareCo-ordinators and a Pharmacy team.

We work hard to deliver the best levels of care to ourpatients and pride ourselves on a 'Family GP' feel. Many of our patients havebeen with the surgery for decades and we regularly receive positive feedbackfrom patients both long standing and newly registered.

Job responsibilities

As an HCA, you will play a vital role in supporting the clinical team in delivering high-quality healthcare services to our patients. You will be responsible for a range of clinical and administrative duties, all of which will help ensure that our patients receive the best possible care in a friendly, patient-centredenvironment.

Phlebotomy Perform blood tests and sample collection with care and attention to patient comfort.

Wound Care Assist with the dressing and management of minor wounds and injuries.

Health Checks Support the nursing team in conducting routine health screenings (e.g., blood pressure, height, weight, etc.).

Chronic Disease Monitoring Assist with the ongoing care and monitoring of patients with long-term conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension).

Vaccinations & Immunisations Administer vaccines as required (flu, travel vaccines, childhood immunisations).

ECGs and Ear Syringing Assist in the administration of ECGs and ear syringing as needed (training can be provided).

Clinical Support Assist GPs and nurses with minor procedures and patient consultations.

SystemOne Accurately document patient information and treatment notes using SystemOne software.

General Patient Care Provide general support to patients, ensuring their comfort, answering queries, and making them feel at ease.

Experience

- Experience of working with the general public
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Wound Care / Removal of sutures & staples
- Venepuncture
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Clear, polite telephone manner
- Effective time management (Planning & Organising)
- Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
- Good interpersonal skills

Qualifications

- Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level
