About the role

As the Financial Controller, you will lead the finance function, working closely with and supporting the Chief Financial Officer in managing and delivering timely and accurate financial reporting, robust financial controls and insightful analysis. You’ll oversee end‑to‑end financial operations and manage, lead and mentor the finance team.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and oversee timely and accurate monthly and annual financial reports.

- Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards and relevant statutory requirements (BAS, GST, FBT, payroll tax, superannuation, etc.).

- Coordinate and manage external audits and liaise with auditors as required.

- Maintain and improve internal financial policies, controls, and procedures.

- Lead day‑to‑day finance operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and cash flow management.

- Ensure accurate and efficient month‑end and year‑end closing processes.

- Oversee payroll and ensure compliance with relevant awards, agreements, and tax regulations.

- Lead the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.

- Provide variance analysis and commentary on financial performance.

- Deliver financial insights and models to support business strategy and project performance.

- Monitor project costs, WIP, margins, and financial performance.

- Work with operational managers to ensure accurate allocation and reporting.

- Manage, mentor, and develop finance team members to ensure high performance.

- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

- Drive the optimisation of our new accounting system.

- Review and improve existing finance processes and reporting tools.

- Partner with operations, HR, and commercial teams to provide financial insight and support.

- Contribute to business cases, tenders, and commercial evaluations.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

- 5+ years of financial controller experience.

- Proven experience managing full financial functions and leading a finance team.

- Strong technical knowledge of Australian accounting standards and regulatory compliance.

- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organisational skills.

- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.

- Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
