Overview

This role provides oversight and supervision to the Early Help and Integrated Family Services Programs across Hume Merri-bek. Early Help is an early intervention program that supports families across the Hume region, it’s an exciting new program that focuses on place-based supports, meeting families where they’re at – schools and early learning centres. The program involves short-term (20 hours) individual support, based on the Brief Parent Coaching Model, group work and capacity building with partner sites. Additionally, the role oversees a Senior IFS Practitioner (Family Violence), which is a newly developed role in the Hume Merri-bek Alliance that focuses on intensive work with families who are experiencing Family Violence, this includes working with Victim Survivors, People who Use Violence (PUV) and Adolescence Violence in The Home (AVITH). This role also has an element of capacity building that works alongside the Early Help Program, offering Family Violence support and education to the team and partners.

About the role

This position is situated within the Family & Community Services Team, situated in the NorthMetro Region. The role is based at the Broadmeadows office.

The Early Help & IFS Coordinator provides leadership to the early Help & Integrated Family Services Teams across Hume Merri-bek. The position will be responsible for contributing to high quality practice through informal and additional supervision, coaching, consultation, support and training for staff and students, the development of the services and quality improvement practices, and the provision of casework, group work and capacity building across the teams.

The role requires the incumbent to hold a relevant tertiary qualification, which may include a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Child Development, Psychology or a related subject area. Candidates who are working towards their Bachelor degree or who hold a relevant Diploma qualification and have substantial experience, are also encouraged to apply. The incumbent is required to be flexible to the needs of the program, including: being available to work outside of business hours (the program operates between the hours of 7am-7pm)

This is a Full-Time ongoing role (38 hours per week) opportunity based in Broadmeadows within our North Metro Family Services Program. The position reports to the Manager Family & Community Services, North & South. The role involves working across Early Help partner sites, located at Schools and Early Learning Centres in Broadmeadows and Craigieburn.

Proficiency in additional languages, such as Turkish, Arabic, or another language spoken in our community, would be highly regarded for this role.

- Significant work experience in a relevant field which supports an understanding of community development, key child development issues relating to young parents and their families who have complex needs.
- Sound knowledge of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005, MARAM Framework and Information Sharing Scheme, and policies relating to child welfare and the Best Interests of the Child Practice Model.
- Highly developed skills in assessing risks, needs and safety for vulnerable children, young people and families.
- Excellent communication, written, verbal and computer skills.
- Ability to participate collaboratively and constructively within teams of peers, staff and other stakeholders, as well as initiative and effective personal judgement when working alone.
- Demonstrated team building capacity and promoting a positive culture and in providing leadership and supervision for staff.
