An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Loss and Prevention Officer to join a leading hospitality group in the East, with a competitive salary in the range of $70,000–$90,000. You will identify, analyse, and mitigate risks related to cash handling, stock control, and operational data; investigate irregularities; and recommend robust controls to reduce shrinkage and fraud. The group supports your attention to detail and commitment to compliance, offering flexibility and ongoing training for professional development.

Location & working style: South-East region, Eastern Suburbs Melbourne; Hybrid workplace; focus on quality assurance within procurement & supply chain.

What you’ll do

- Monitor and audit cash handling procedures across all revenue centres including front desk, food & beverage outlets, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
- Investigate variances in daily cash reconciliation by analysing potential causes such as theft, fraud, or procedural gaps.
- Conduct spot checks and unannounced audits on cash floats, safes, and point-of-sale terminals to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal controls.
- Analyse inventory reports to identify stock losses or unusual usage patterns indicating inefficiencies or non-compliance.
- Investigate stock discrepancies by reviewing wastage or delivery records and collaborate with procurement to address irregularities.
- Utilise business intelligence tools and internal systems (POS, ERP, inventory software) to detect loss, fraud or operational inefficiency.
- Identify trends in discounts, voids, complimentary items, refunds or stock consumption that could indicate policy breaches.
- Produce regular dashboards and detailed reports highlighting anomalies and emerging loss trends for senior management.
- Conduct root cause analysis and work with operational teams to implement corrective actions.
- Support development and rollout of internal control policies; assist in staff training on cash handling, stock management, and loss prevention protocols.

What you bring

- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management or a related field (preferred).
- Experience in loss prevention, audit or financial control within hospitality, retail or FMCG sectors.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Power BI) and familiarity with POS and inventory management systems.
- Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, and ability to identify subtle risk patterns.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with operational teams at all levels.
- Discretion and professionalism when handling confidential financial information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team focused on risk reduction.
- Experience supporting incident investigations involving theft or policy violations is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Ability to produce clear dashboards and reports for senior stakeholders.
