AU/NZ Trade Compliance Sr. PM, Project Kuiper

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, with capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

This position may require access to information, technology, or hardware that is subject to export control laws and regulations, including EAR and ITAR. Employment in this position is contingent upon obtaining any required export licenses or approvals from the United States government. The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain any necessary export licenses or approvals based on nationality, citizenship, and other factors considered by export control regulations.

Responsibilities

- Set AU/NZ regional trade compliance strategy covering programs including customs valuation, broker management, and compliance with Other Government Agency requirements.

- Manage AU/NZ import customs compliance for Kuiper imports and exports including harmonized tariff classifications, country of origin determination, product valuation reporting, and import license applications.

- Review import documents for accuracy and completeness.

- Support Kuiper’s customs brokers with data to enable entry filing.

- Monitor entry status of imports and provide updates to concerned departments on holds or delays.

- Take timely and compliant action in response to import holds (e.g., customs or Other Government Agency holds).

- Upload and maintain electronic import files in the record retention repository for audit purposes.

- Execute AU/NZ HTS classifications, maintain items database in ERP, support HTS challenges, and work with the direct manager and Legal on classification rulings as required.

- Analyze customs tariffs and duty rates and contribute to regional strategy to manage costs.

- Maintain Kuiper customs compliance work instructions and SOPs, manage document revisions, and support continuous process improvement of AU/NZ customs compliance.

- Manage customs compliance internal controls to ensure compliance with foreign regulations governing imports.

- Generate and communicate metrics of imports including transit time, compliance accuracy, cost, and broker performance for Kuiper leadership.

- Conduct self-assessments (compliance audits) and implement corrective actions.

- Provide compliance training to new employees and cross-functional teams and maintain training records.

- Collaborate with supply chain, procurement, finance, tax, and engineering to maintain compliance across import/export programs.

About the team

The AU/NZ Trade Compliance PM grows our customs broker network globally to enable Kuiper imports/exports in new markets and ensures AU/NZ import/export law compliance. Reporting to the Sr. Manager Global Trade, the role develops guidelines and procedures for customs compliance policy and coordinates daily import activities, including HTS classifications, origin determinations, valuation reporting, and license applications. The role interfaces with internal and external customers, brokers, government officers, and other functions to ensure compliance and identify improvement opportunities.

Basic Qualifications

- 5+ years of relevant experience managing trade compliance programs covering customs valuation, broker management, and compliance with Other Government Agency requirements in APAC/ANZ region.

- 5+ years of relevant experience managing customs brokers and handling end-to-end import/export transactions from shipment start to entry filing and record maintenance.

- 5+ years of relevant experience with advanced Excel and ERP systems (preferably SAP) and ability to analyze and interpret data.

- 5+ years of relevant experience auditing customs transactions (self-assessments and responses to external audits).

- 5+ years of relevant experience in industry and/or academia.

- Successful track record engaging directly with Customs Officers, Officials, and Regulators in Other Government Agencies.

- Professional level written and spoken proficiency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

- Customs Broker's License

- Knowledge of Other Government Agency Regulations in the aerospace and/or telecommunications industry

- Comfort with ambiguity and curiosity to learn new skills

- Experience building or supporting a compliance program from the ground up

- Proactive self-starter with a track record of learning new concepts and expanding responsibilities

- Professional level written and spoken proficiency in one or more ASEAN languages or Japanese
