Associate Architect – Feasibility, Design & DA Focus
Location: Sydney, NSW
Type: Full-time | Permanent
Salary: $130-160,000 + Super
We are seeking an experienced and driven Associate Architect to join a respected Sydney studio, leading a portfolio of projects with a strong emphasis on feasibility studies, early‑stage design, and Development Application (DA) submissions.
This senior leadership role is pivotal to the studio’s growth, responsible for overseeing multiple projects, mentoring teams, and working closely with directors to shape design outcomes and project strategies.
About the Client:
A Sydney‑based architecture studio founded on a culture of collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. The studio believes that great design emerges through a rigorous process of exploration, uncovering the full potential of every project — regardless of type or scale. Committed to delivering socially, environmentally, and economically sustainable outcomes, the team creates architecture that responds thoughtfully to its context and client ambitions. Their projects are elegantly conceived, a delight to experience, and detailed with technical precision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage projects through early feasibility, concept design, and DA phases.
- Undertake site investigations, strategic feasibility assessments, and planning reviews to inform project potential.
- Develop high‑quality design concepts that meet client briefs, authority requirements, and site‑specific opportunities.
- Oversee preparation and submission of Development Applications, liaising with councils, consultants, and clients.
- Mentor and supervise project teams, fostering a collaborative, high‑performing studio environment.
- Contribute to business development initiatives through client relationships and new opportunities.
- Uphold the studio’s design excellence and ensure projects align with regulatory and commercial requirements.
- Support the development of internal systems, project delivery processes, and design standards.
Skills & Experience:
- Registered Architect in Australia.
- 12+ years of professional experience, with a proven track record across feasibility, design, and DA submissions (residential, mixed‑use, and/or commercial preferred).
- Deep understanding of NSW planning controls, SEPPs, and Development Application processes.
- Strong design leadership skills with the ability to balance creative vision with regulatory and commercial realities.
- Excellent project management, communication, and client liaison abilities.
- Proven experience in mentoring and leading project teams.
- Strategic mindset with a proactive approach to problem‑solving and opportunity creation.
What We Offer:
- A senior leadership opportunity within a dynamic, collaborative studio.
- Exciting pipeline of design‑led projects at key early phases.
- Career progression aligned with your professional goals.
- Competitive salary package and flexible working arrangements.
- A supportive and inspiring team environment committed to excellence.
If you are passionate about shaping projects from the ground up and leading design at the critical front‑end stages, we would love to hear from you.
