To provide civil legal advice and litigation services to the State and its Agencies by acting as a litigious solicitor and counsel.

Period of Appointment

Fixed term - 3 years

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight- flexible options available.

Duties

- To act as solicitor and counsel in civil matters involving the State and its Agencies before any State Courts, Tribunals or Boards at first instance.

- To act as solicitor and counsel in civil appellate matters under the supervision of more senior legal practitioners.

- To provide advice to the State and its Agencies in respect of civil legal issues.

- To act as counsel in such matters involving the State and its Agencies as may be directed from time to time by the State Litigator or Assistant State Litigator.

- To participate in performance management and file reviews as directed by the Assistant State Litigator.

- Admitted or eligible for admission as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.

- 3 years' experience or more in legal practice relevant to the duties of the position.

- Pre‑employment (National Police Record) checks for:Arson and fire setting, violent crimes and crimes against the person,sex‑related offences,drug and alcohol related offences,crimes involving dishonesty, deception and/or conspiracy, making false declarations,malicious damage and destruction to property,serious traffic offences,crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice, Executive or the Legislative Power.

- Disciplinary action in previous employment.
