This department is responsible for the efficient, effective, compliant and secure delivery of information technology services to support the Reserve Bank of Australia’s policy, operational and corporate functions including highly available national critical infrastructure.Based at our Chifley Square office, this role presents a unique opportunity to work as part of the Bank’s senior leadership team to shape the future of our institution and ensure that Australia’s central bank is fit for the future. The Bank offers flexible working arrangements.The successful candidate will lead and oversee strategic planning, application development and acquisition, service delivery, cyber security and people and risk management and drive key stakeholder engagement with external vendors, the Bank Executive and Board. The position leads a team of around 600.**About the role*** **Lead Strategic Technology Vision:** Define and execute a forward-looking technology strategy aligned with the Bank’s corporate plan.* **Drive Operational Excellence:** Translate strategic intent into operational delivery with precision and pace. Oversee complex infrastructure and application environments and ensure resilience**.*** **Modernise and Transform:** Champion modern ways of working, including agile delivery, continuous delivery and automation, and cloud adoption to enhance operational resilience and delivery velocity. Lead the ongoing uplift of cyber security posture and improvement to the resilience of technology platforms and processes.* **Manage Critical Incidents and Risk:** Lead incident response (including out of hours) and ensure robust risk management processes and effective controls across all technology domains. Maintain operational resilience and ensure business continuity.* **Build Capability and Resilience:** Develop leadership depth within the technology department, ensuring succession planning, talent development, and team resilience are embedded in the operating model.* **Inspire, Guide and Enable Teams:** Inspire and empowering over 600 FTE across multiple technology domains to be accountable and contribute meaningfully to strategic goals. Provide clear direction, foster ownership, and enable high reliability delivery through structured leadership and support.* **Set High Standards and Expectations:** Establish a culture of high reliability to support the national critical technology infrastructure the Bank runs. Set clear performance expectations, make tough decisions when needed, and challenge the status quo to achieve better outcomes.* **Engage and Influence Stakeholders:** Represent technology services at executive and Board levels. Communicate with clarity and confidence, influencing senior stakeholders and navigating complex governance environments.**About you*** Proven executive-level experience leading large-scale technology functions (ideally 500+ FTE) within organisations running national critical infrastructure, or financial services.* Demonstrated success in driving organisational transformation, modernising technology environments, and building high-reliability teams.* Experience managing complex high availability operational environments, including out-of-hours incident response and risk mitigation.* Ability to translate strategic vision into execution with measurable outcomes.* Familiarity with regulatory and compliance frameworks relevant to Commonwealth government, central banking and critical infrastructure.* Directive leadership style with clarity, confidence, and control.**Be More** Working for an organisation that truly makes a difference to the people of Australia, we can offer development and career opportunities in a collaborative environment that supports your growth, wellbeing and promotes flexibility.
