About the Role

John Holland is at the forefront of Australia's infrastructure sector, and we are actively seeking an astute and diligent Training & RIW Coordinator to provide pivotal support within the Safety Team for our Canberra Light Rail Project.

In the role of Training & RIW Coordinator, you will ensure the effective management of the Rail Industry Worker (RIW) programme, playing a crucial part in maintaining compliance and enhancing the safety of our workforce.

Project Description

John Holland as part of a JV has been awarded a major works contract for the delivery of Light Rail Stage 2A – City to Commonwealth Park in Canberra ACT. The project will see three new stops built at Edinburgh Avenue, City South and Commonwealth Avenue, extending the network by 1.7 kilometres.

Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do:

- Oversee the Rail Industry Worker (RIW) programme for all Subcontractor personnel on-site, ensuring compliance with national rail safety standards.

- Manage the administration of subcontractor RIW compliance as part of the onboarding process for subcontractors prior to mobilisation.

- Maintain accurate records of training, competencies, and medicals for all rail workers, aligning with project specifications.

- Liaise with project teams and integrate RIW requirements with other site activities, such as civil, track, and electrical works.

- Engage with stakeholders, including training providers, contractors, and regulatory authorities, to facilitate the smooth operation of the RIW programme.

- Uphold John Holland’s commitment to safety and quality, adhering to company policies and relevant industry regulations.

- Monitor and report on compliance with the RIW programme, ensuring all rail workers are qualified and fit for duty.

- Support the development of a safety-focused culture among the workforce, emphasising teamwork, innovation, and technical proficiency.

To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for:

- Experience in coordinating or administering RIW programmes is essential for this role.

- Robust organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to effectively manage and prioritise tasks.

- Proficiency in project management software and general IT skills, with a meticulous approach to record‑keeping and reporting.

- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, with the talent to nurture relationships and manage expectations of various stakeholders.

- A steadfast dedication to health, safety, and environmental standards in the workplace.

- Adaptability to the changing landscape of project work and a readiness to embrace the distinctive challenges presented by the rail environment.

- Possession of a current driver’s licence and a willingness to work in various locations as necessitated by the project.
