About the Role

The Deputy Director‑General Group is responsible for shaping National Archives strategy, building organisational resilience, embracing technology, leading transformation, and lifting capability.

The Property and Security section manages a property portfolio of 13 buildings across all States and Territories. It delivers fit‑for‑purpose accommodation and collection storage while fostering a positive security culture to meet the Australian Government’s Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) obligations.

Responsibilities

- Manage National Archives’ property portfolio and support services, including lease and facilities management and procurement processes for a wide range of required property and security goods and services.

- Ensure consistent delivery and implementation of government security advice, excluding ICT and Cyber. This includes supporting staff in the delivery of security tasks, professional development, stakeholder engagement and raising security awareness.

- Manage and lead Business Continuity operations ensuring National Archives meets business resilience and appropriate staff understand their responsibilities in undertaking required actions.

- Undertake engagement and relationship management with all business areas to achieve section/branch/organisation objectives such as capital works, facilities management and security response.

- Support and develop staff, fostering a high‑performing, inclusive and collaborative team culture.

- Promote and apply the APS and National Archives values and contemporary people management principles and practices in diversity, workplace health and safety and participative management.

- Implement, promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Our Values.

Qualifications

- Australian citizen.

- Must successfully undergo a pre‑employment check and obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Negative Vetting 2 clearance level.

- The names and contact details of at least two referees, one of whom should be a current supervisor.
