Responsibilities
What you'll do: As Senior Manager Credit Operations, you will be entrusted with leading a diverse team across multiple locations while driving operational excellence in all aspects of credit management. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve overseeing workflow allocation to maximise productivity; implementing robust risk frameworks; developing innovative process improvements; guiding complex decision-making; building strategic partnerships; presenting key insights externally; identifying developmental needs; reporting on performance metrics; collaborating on audits; and ensuring compliance with evolving regulations. Success in this role requires you to nurture talent within your team through supportive leadership while maintaining rigorous standards of service delivery. You will play an integral part in shaping both operational strategy and workplace culture—ensuring that every member feels valued as they contribute towards shared goals.
- Lead the Credit Team across Australia and Manila by managing workflows, resources, and fostering an open communication style that encourages collaboration and skill development.
- Drive the implementation and adoption of the Credit Risk Framework, including responsible lending policies, operational guidelines, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Own the end-to-end credit decision-making process for all product lines, maintaining high standards of accuracy, timeliness, and quality while promoting continuous improvement.
- Develop technology-based solutions and process enhancements that increase efficiency within the Credit Team and contribute positively to broader business objectives.
- Serve as a referral point for complex cases, policy interpretations, and escalated matters from Credit Officers and Team Leaders, offering expert guidance rooted in commercial acumen.
- Build strategic relationships across the business by providing insights on new services or products development and acting as a subject matter expert on emerging industry practices.
- Present confidently on credit policies, procedures, and collateral performance to external stakeholders such as investment bankers, rating agencies, regulatory authorities, mortgage managers, brokers, LMI providers, valuers, solicitors, clients, and legal firms.
- Identify training needs—both technical and non-technical—to uplift competency levels within the team through targeted development programmes.
- Report regularly to executive stakeholders on team performance metrics such as turnaround times and deal volumes while proposing actionable solutions for any identified issues.
- Collaborate with internal audit teams to ensure statutory compliance with credit policies during audits conducted by third-party providers.
Qualifications
What you bring: To excel as Senior Manager Credit Operations you will bring extensive experience from senior roles within residential mortgage credit management—ideally spanning more than fifteen years—with deep exposure to people leadership over at least a decade. Your background should include hands-on involvement in designing risk frameworks; interpreting regulatory requirements; developing automated scoring models; managing large teams across geographies; presenting complex information clearly; collaborating on audits; resolving conflicts empathetically; uplifting technical competencies through training initiatives; leveraging technology for process optimisation; reporting on performance metrics; interacting with diverse stakeholders including executive boards or regulatory bodies. Your interpersonal skills—rooted in empathy—and commitment to nurturing talent will set you apart as someone who builds trust among colleagues while driving collective achievement.
- Degree qualification in Commerce, Banking, Law or Risk Management is desirable for this position but not mandatory if equivalent experience can be demonstrated.
- At least 15 years’ proven experience in senior credit management roles within the residential mortgage industry is essential for success in this role.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in people management or people leadership positions is required to effectively lead cross-functional teams.
- Professional accreditation relevant to credit management or risk assessment would be advantageous but not compulsory.
- Advanced analytical skills enabling you to interpret complex data sets for informed decision making are highly valued.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen with strategic planning abilities that align operational activities with broader business objectives is expected.
- Exceptional communication skills—including presentation abilities—are necessary for engaging internal stakeholders as well as external partners such as regulators or investors.
- Proven track record in project management with strong time management capabilities ensures successful delivery of initiatives under tight deadlines.
- Experience implementing process improvements using technology-based solutions will help drive efficiencies within the team.
- Conflict resolution skills combined with customer service management expertise are vital for resolving differences professionally while maintaining positive relationships.
