The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is a critical participant in the administration of justice within Western Australia, providing an independent and effective criminal prosecution service and confiscation practice.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for Western Australia invites applications for consideration for the appointment to the position of Director Legal Services
The Director Legal Services is responsible for managing the Legal Services Division which includes approximately 164 legal staff ranging from entry level Legal Officers to Senior State Prosecutors and Practice Managers. The Director Legal Services is expected to contribute to the strategic direction of legal functions within the ODPP, including strategic planning, governance and as a part of the Executive, ensure the ODPPs legal processes are in place and working effectively.
The Director Legal Services is responsible for providing advice and support to the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Director Legal Services has a significant role in contributing to the ongoing legal reform process for the ODPP and facilitating the identification and implementation of continuous improvement strategies that will ensure the Office meets its business requirements.
The Director Legal Services will need to maintain a steady strategic focus on the division, ensuring that day to day decisions always support the longer term direction of the ODPP. Some key initial priorities for the role include:
- Establishing a Legal Services Division integrated business plan;
- Modernise processes and technology;
- Strengthen workforce sustainability;
- Lift culture and leadership capacity by support and empowering Practice Managers; and
- Deepen justice system partnership in consultation with the Director of Public Prosecutions.
It is essential that the Director model the ODPP Values and the highest standards of professional and ethical behaviour for ODPP staff at all levels.
The ability to think and act strategically, build strong working relationships both internal and external to the ODPP, lead change and shape an engaged culture will be essential to success in this role.
