Opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the region's financial sustainability & long-term prosperity by leading a professional & cohesive finance team.
Located between Cairns and Townsville, Cassowary Coast Regional Council is committed to delivering quality services, sustainable growth, and good governance for its residents and businesses. The Chief Financial Officer will join the leadership team to oversee all aspects of Council's financial strategy, statutory reporting, budgeting, forecasting, rating and payroll, and will work to support capital projects such as the Innisfail Gateway and Easton Estate Development.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of Council's financial strategy, statutory reporting, budgeting, forecasting, rating and payroll.
- Lead a professional and cohesive finance team of eighteen.
- Provide expert guidance on financial performance, governance, and sustainability to the Executive Leadership Team, elected members, and senior managers.
- Maintain robust financial management practices and clear strategic objectives to deliver on Council's priorities: healthy communities, liveable places, sustainable environments, and a thriving economy.
- Support decision-making through sound financial analysis, innovation, and capability development.
- Contribute to large-scale capital projects and the region’s financial stewardship.
Qualifications
- Strong background in financial management, ideally in local government or a similarly complex, high-scrutiny regulated environment.
- Ability to navigate complexity, manage political and operational challenges, and provide calm, credible leadership.
- Balanced, strategic oversight with hands-on engagement and respect for the team’s deep knowledge.
