Company: Robuk Engineering Pty Ltd
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson to join our growing production team. In this role, you will be at the centre of our design process, turning concepts into detailed 3D CAD drawings, preparing fabrication packages, and supporting the production floor. You will collaborate with Engineers, Production and Operations Managers, and our skilled manufacturing team to ensure our trailers meet customer requirements, safety standards, and Australian compliance.
Benefits
- Competitive salary package aligned with industry standards
- Superannuation contributions in addition to base salary
- Opportunities for professional growth and development
- Collaborative and supportive team environment
- Work on large-scale projects in the heavy transport industry
- Modern facilities and access to advanced design tools and software
Tasks & Responsibilities
As a Draftsperson at Robuk Engineering, you’ll play a key role in bringing our innovative trailer designs to life. Working closely with our Engineers, Production and Operations Managers, and skilled manufacturing team, you will transform concepts into accurate 2D drawings.
This role involves a mix of workshop and on-site work, with tasks that include:
- Build parametric 3D assemblies in Autodesk Inventor for complete trailers, configuring customer options and variants.
- Produce fabrication and workshop drawings with dimensional tolerances, finishes, and issue drawing packs for production bays.
- Generate production files: DXF flat patterns, STEP/IGES supplier models, cut/profile lists, and developed sheet-metal parts for CAM/nesting.
- Create and maintain multi-level BOMs with Robuk part numbers, revision control, and masses, supporting Purchasing and Fit-Out.
- Run interference, clearance, and manufacturability checks (turning envelopes, suspension travel, service access, hose/wiring routing) and resolve issues before release.
- Prepare FEA-ready geometry, iterating reinforcement details to meet Robuk’s durability standards and Australian operating conditions.
- Manage CAD data and revisions in Autodesk Vault, ensuring change logs, approvals, and release are tracked via monday.com.
- Support production with RFIs, assembly instructions, exploded views, simple jigs/fixtures, redlines, and “as-built” updates.
- Compile customer handover packs and provide drawings/data for PBS compliance.
- Assist Engineers and Technologists in the design and development of new mechanical systems and trailer components. Estimate material costs, machine requirements, and quantities for trailer builds.
- Carry out field and lab tests, collect and analyse data, and prepare technical diagrams and reports.
- Supervise inspection and maintenance documentation to ensure compliance with specifications and regulatory standards.
Qualifications & Experience
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Proven minimum of 1 year experience as a mechanical engineering draftsperson, preferably in automotive, trailers, or heavy equipment.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and Vault (or similar CAD/PDM systems).
- Strong understanding of fabrication, sheet-metal design, and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and ability to manage revisions/document control.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work across engineering and production teams.
- Knowledge of Australian standards and compliance (PBS experience desirable).
- Qualification in Drafting, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar discipline
