The opportunity

Our national Hazardous Materials & Occupational Hygiene team comprises licensed asbestos assessors, certified occupational hygienists, senior toxicologists, and laboratory professionals.

We're growing the local team and currently hiring a Consultant and a Senior Consultant.

You will be based in our Newcastle office and contribute to enhancing environmental health and safety (EHS) standards within workplaces, safeguarding the health and wellbeing of workers as well as your clients' reputation, meeting regulatory and best practice requirements.

We've recently delivered asbestos, HAZMAT, and occupational hygiene consultancy services across a wide range of workplace environments from large-scale industrial to specialist research facilities.

This is an exciting role with overtime opportunities, great working conditions, and a diverse team of experts to support you towards achieving your career goals. This includes training and mentoring to develop your skills in the role.

What you'll do

1. Conducting Asbestos and HazMat audits in commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and residential properties, including:

- Regulatory required condition and re-inspection audits

- Regulatory and investigative pre-demolition / refurbishment assessments

- Developing asbestos monitoring and remediation strategies, issuing clearances

- Providing technical guidance on sites during asbestos and lead removal projects

- Conducting indoor air quality, mould, and moisture assessments

- Conducting occupational hygiene assessments for a broad range of contaminants including dust, noise, chemicals, etc.

- Analyzing data and preparing technical reports with support from senior staff, including technical specialists and Certified Occupational Hygienists

- Assisting the team with strategy and business development

About you

You are likely to have tertiary qualifications in a scientific field, environmental management/science, health and safety, or occupational hygiene.

You will ideally bring the following:

- Demonstrate initiative and competence in the technical aspects of the role and be ready and willing to embrace new challenges

- Strong report writing ability and verbal and written communication skills

- Personal, client, and project management skills

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Able to work remotely on occasion, with occasional weekends and overtime as required

- Experience in measuring and assessing occupational exposure to hazards in the workplace or conducting asbestos and hazmat surveys

- Asbestos Assessors License would be highly regarded

- A full Australian Driver's License if required to travel to client sites
