About the role
This role sits within the People and Culture team and reports to the Chief People Officer (CPO).
As the People Engagement Advisor, you’ll support the development and delivery of staff engagement activities, communications, and content across Council. Your work will help create a workplace where people feel informed, valued, and engaged.
You’ll work closely with staff at all levels to draft and share important updates, support key people initiatives, and help plan staff events. You’ll also collaborate with the Public Affairs team to ensure our messaging is clear and consistent. This is a great opportunity to make a real difference in how our people experience work every day.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and implement internal communication and engagement strategies that support a positive workplace culture and enhance the employee experience.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to support the planning, implementation and evaluation of key people and culture programs and initiatives, for example enterprise agreements, policy changes and change management.
- Update and maintain people and culture related content on the intranet.
- Collaborate with employees to gather content and stories that build pride, understanding, and alignment with Council's mission and values.
About you
You’re a strong communicator who enjoys working with others and building relationships. You have a knack for writing engaging content and can explain things clearly, whether it’s a newsletter, an intranet update, or a staff announcement. You’re organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
You’re comfortable working with digital communication tools and have a good understanding of what makes staff engagement effective. You value diversity, inclusion, and are committed to upholding our organisational values of service excellence, collaboration, innovation, respect, and integrity.
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Communications, Public Relations, Journalism) or equivalent experience.
- Experience in internal or corporate communications, ideally in a complex or regulated environment.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills across different formats and channels (e.g. SharePoint, internal social networks, social media).
- Experience managing change communications and organisational announcements.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work with senior leaders.
