About the School

Thornlie Senior High School’s (SHS) vision is to Engage, Inspire and Achieve. At our school, students fulfil their aspirations in an environment that emphasises the importance of respectful relationships and the achievement of personal best. Thornlie SHS is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), catering for the majority of students in Senior School.

We are a proud Independent Public Secondary School with over five decades of experience in providing a successful education to our 1,200 Years 7‑12 students, helping them to identify their aspirations and achieve their personal goals.

The Role

Thornlie SHS is seeking a passionate and innovative teacher to lead students as an advisory teacher within our Big Picture Learning Academy. Experience in a current Big Picture advisory role would be welcome but is not essential. This program caters for students in Year 10‑12 and encourages all students to identify and pursue their interests and passions through Advisory groups, individualised learning projects and internships.

The successful applicant should place students at the centre of decisions about what, how, and when they learn, fostering independence, engagement, and a lifelong love of learning. You will ideally create an environment built on trust, respect, and care, working closely with families, industry mentors, and the school community to ensure varied, personalised, and differentiated approaches to learning.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for student learning across the curriculum, including literacy and numeracy, that aligns with their individual goals. The successful applicant will continue to develop the philosophy of combining personalised learning and working together – one student at a time – in a community of learners to create a classroom environment where students are engaged in meaningful learning and where academic progress is measured against real‑world standards and how it transforms their lives.

Qualifications & Skills

The successful applicant will ideally possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills which could be used to develop and promote the school’s values, ethos and priorities across the school community. You should build positive relationships with students and the wider community and be passionate about creating positive futures for students. We are ideally looking for performance‑driven people who use evidence‑based decision‑making skills.
