The Australian Research Centre for Cancer Survivorship
The Australian Research Centre for Cancer Survivorship, established through a 10-year partnership between Cancer Council NSW and UNSW Sydney, aims to enhance the quality of life for people living with and beyond cancer. Each year, over 162,000 Australians are diagnosed with cancer, and with increasing survival rates, there is a growing need for ongoing support. The Centre will co-design, evaluate and implement evidence-based interventions to improve care, wellbeing and survivorship outcomes, guiding practice, services and policy across NSW and serving as a model nationally and internationally.
UNSW Sydney and Cancer Council NSW invite applications for four senior academic positions (Level D/E) within the newly established Australian Research Centre for Cancer Survivorship (ARCCS).
Led by Professor Bogda Koczwara AM , a distinguished medical oncologist and international leader in cancer survivorship, the Centre was founded through a $40 million, 10-year partnership between UNSW Sydney and Cancer Council NSW.
The Research Leads will report to Professor Koczwara and play a key role in shaping the Centre’s research strategy across four major themes:
- Person-Centred Care in Cancer Survivorship – advancing holistic, equitable and empowering models of care that place survivors at the heart of the health system.
- Behaviour and Health – exploring behavioural, psychological and social factors that help cancer survivors maintain and improve their wellbeing after diagnosis.
- Survivorship Epidemiology – investigating long-term health outcomes, quality of life, and disparities in survivorship through large-scale and data-driven research.
- Precision Survivorship – pioneering tailored approaches to survivorship care informed by molecular, genetic, behavioural and environmental factors.
These roles offer an exceptional opportunity for accomplished academic leaders to work under the direction of Professor Koczwara in driving world-leading survivorship research, building national and international partnerships, securing competitive funding, and mentoring the next generation of researchers—helping ensure Australia leads not only in cancer survival, but in the quality of life after cancer.
Skills Required:
- A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
- Extensive leadership experience in the relevant professional field.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.

- Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to work and influence across disciplines, Faculties, institutions, industry and professional accreditation bodies.
- Evidence of being an inspirational role model for other academics seeking mentoring, guidance, advice and support.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead by example in supporting equal opportunity and equity, diversity and inclusion policy and programs.
