The adult mental health service components are: Primary Intervention and Care, the Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), the North Fitzroy Prevention and Recovery Care service (PARC), the 44 bed Acute Inpatient Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent’s Hospital site, and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS). Community mental health services comprise the Triage and Crisis assessment and Treatment (CAT) service, Extended Triage and MH-HARP, Continuing Care (CCT), Mobile Support and Treatment (MST) and Homeless Outreach (CHOPS) services. A Consultation & Liaison Service is provided to the health service. NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service, the Body Image and Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service (BETRS) and NEVIL Training Cluster are regional services. Statewide services are the Victorian Dual Disability Service, the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health and Dual Diagnosis Education and Training Unit. The Acute Inpatient Service includes 5 beds designated as the Koori State-wide Inpatient Service and linked to the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service.All St Vincent’s Mental Health clinical staff are expected to be familiar with, and practice in a manner consistent with the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce.## **POSITION PURPOSE**Footbridge CCU is a 20 bed community residential service for consumers with a mental illness and complex psycho-social issues. The service consists of a mixture of single units and shared units. We operate on the principles of recovery orientated practice, utilising the strengths model.There are two streams provided by Footbridge CCU, the Recovery Review Program (RRP) and the Intensive Recovery Review Program (IRP). The RRP is a 4 week comprehensive multi-disciplinary assessment, out of which recommendations are made about the most suitable care and support options. Where a stay at Footbridge is recommended, the consumer is invited into the IRP.The IRP is an intensive program focussing on the individual’s recovery goals, discharge planning and future supports required. This is done through case management, utilising the skills of allied health and nursing staff.Under the guidance of the Manager, Consultant Psychiatrist, and Senior Clinicians (Senior Staff Group), and in conjunction with team members, you will provide a high standard of clinical assessment, treatment, and support to consumers and carers. The ANUM will deliver case management using the Strengths Model a recovery recovery-orientated approach to an identified caseload and psychiatric nursing specific interventions.The ANUM will provide shift leadership to the team, demonstrate discipline specific and recovery-focused case management expertise, and provide supervision to staff and students. They will also support the Senior Staff Group in service development at the CCU including the review of clinical processes and the development and maintenance of sustainable working partnerships with internal and external service providers.## **POSITION DUTIES*** Coordinate and manage the shift to ensure the provision of high quality consumer-focused care* Provide leadership, act as a role model to staff and coordinate the allocation of resources on the shift to meet the needs of patients* Provide clinical supervision to RPN 1's and RPN 2's, RPN students, PENs and any other program staff, and allocate tasks on the basis of the available staff‘s knowledge and skills* Undertake nursing assessments and independently institute nursing care for consumers* Undertake mental, social and physical assessments of consumers that will lead to recommendation of a course of action being taken* Ensure the accurate documentation of consumer records during the shift* Assist RPN 4 or above to develop and implement the philosophy and objectives of a program* Assist consumers to identify their support needs, to utilise and strengthen existing support networks and to build new support networks were required* Ensure every effort to support consumers to actively practice their culture and values, recognising that cultural practices can be important for people’s recovery* On the authority of a medical officer/psychiatrist, administer and assess effects of medications* Assess the level of urgency in situations of a consumer’s psychiatric or physical deterioration and undertake a course of action to resolve or ameliorate the situation accordingly* Actively pursue professional learning, supervision and development opportunities to continuously build their capacity to provide high-quality recovery-oriented mental health care* Undertake community agency consultation and education and develop community projects under the supervision of, or with assistance from, the RPN4 or Manager* Undertake specific rehabilitative/recovery or educational projects with consumers* Where necessary refer consumers to other mental health professionals or human service agencies in the wider community* Actively challenge stigmatising attitudes, discrimination and social exclusion, and work to promote positive attitudes towards people with a lived experience* Act as an advocate on behalf of the consumers with relevant community agencies* Under the direction of the manager undertake other activities that are within the scope of practice for a person functioning at a RPN3 ANUM level## SELECTION CRITERIA* Demonstrated ability and knowledge of a recovery oriented, community based psychosocial approach promoting social connectedness and inclusion.* Well-developed ability to develop care plans that are creative and flexible, place the consumer as the expert and leader of their care, and which draw in services from across a range of sectors.* Demonstrated ability to engage with, and work collaboratively with people with severe mental illness and complex psychosocial needs.* High level communication skills, written and verbal.* Demonstrated ability to provide leadership for the clinical team in promoting a standard of excellence in clinical practice. This includes the supervision of nursing staff and students, the coordination and allocation of resources on the shift to meet the needs of the consumers and contributing to team clinical processes such as Clinical Review and Group Supervision.* Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications* Demonstrated planning and organisation skills and an ability to work independently* Current Nursing and Midwifery Board
