The Role

The Youth Residential Support Worker role provides a safe and caring environment, supporting the live-in Senior Residential Care Worker to help the young person de‑escalate and regulate emotions, develop independent living skills, and re-engage in education and community activities. Candidates with experience with disengaged young people, trauma, challenging behaviours, or mental health challenges are highly regarded.

Roster Example

3pm - 8pm (Weekdays); 9am - 5pm (Weekends); 5pm - 10pm (Weekends)

Responsibilities

- Promote and assist young people to achieve goals identified in Individual Case Plans
- Assist young people to develop independence and build community networks
- Support the young person’s interests
- Establish rapport and collaborate effectively with young people to achieve positive outcomes
- Manage behavioural escalations and assist the young person to co-regulate emotionally
- Domestic duties and supporting the young person to learn self-care (e.g., cooking, housework, laundry)
- Communicate with the care team and report incidents promptly and accurately
- Medication administration (when required)
- Maintenance of progress notes and record keeping

Skills & Experience

- Certificate in Youth Work, Mental Health, or a relevant qualification (or willing to work towards qualifications)
- Experience with young people who have experienced significant trauma and neglect, including the management of behaviours of concern
- Strong interpersonal skills with young people and stakeholders
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Experience with young people from Indigenous or other cultural backgrounds (advantageous)
- Current First Aid Certificate (must have prior to commencing employment)
- Desirable: Experience with behavioural management approaches (e.g., Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, positive behaviour support, trauma and attachment, Sanctuary or CARE residential models) – in-house training provided

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, Department of Communities Check and Working with Children Check.
