Description: Pathology Queensland has an exciting opportunity as a Molecular Haematology Fellow who will contribute fully to departmental activities under the guidance of the Discipline Medical Director – Haematology. The position will be involved in education and research activities and will provide clinical support and set a professional example to more junior clinical and /or scientific staff. A competitive salary applies which includes base salary, vocational training subsidy, professional development leave, 5 weeks annual leave and 12.75% superannuation.

You will be required to fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Queensland Public Service values.

- Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
- Undertake regular assessment and performance review and meet mandatory training requirements.
- Actively participate in teaching and supervision of Junior Medical Staff, Medical Students and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Comply with and utilise procedures, organisational policies, regulations and standards, which impact on the position including contemporary human resource management issues of workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination.
- The intent of the role is to complete all requirements for NPAAC Module 3 certification in haematology. This includes but is not limited to:

In accordance with the RCPA training and assessment pathway. Completion of these requirements will give the candidate the opportunity to sit for relevant Module examinations during the training year.

Training

- Develop further understanding of the regulatory framework governing genetic testing
- Develop insight into ethics regarding genetic testing
- Participation in curation of malignant haematological panels
- Participation in human erythrocyte genotyping
- Participation in germline curation
- Exposure to MRD analyses
- Potential completion or participation in suitable project/research
- Academic sessions and participation in meetings
- Participation in the preparation and presentation to relevant multidisciplinary meetings
- Educational presentations to laboratory / other staff

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

- Academic achievement and interest in Molecular Haematology; proven ability to succeed in medical examinations.
- Interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a team member and to relate successfully with other staff at all levels.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both spoken and written English in formal, informal presentation of scientific, teaching or clinical material.
- Ability, interest and willingness to participate in the teaching of pathology and research.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

- MBBS or equivalent, and must be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia
- The incumbent must be eligible for fellowship with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in Haematology within six (6) months prior to commencing in the role.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD and Covid Vaccination) requirements

- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
