Risk and Process Safety Engineer

We’re partnering with a high-risk industrial operation on a strictly confidential search for an experienced Risk & Process Safety Engineer. This role sits at the heart of managing hazardous process systems, strengthening risk frameworks, and ensuring operational and regulatory compliance.
About the Role
You’ll take the lead on building, maintaining and embedding the site’s Process Safety & Risk Management systems. Expect to be deeply involved in risk assessments, safety studies, regulatory documentation, functional safety reviews and supporting both engineering and operational teams with subject matter expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate HAZOP, HAZID, Bowtie, LOPA and other structured process safety assessments.
- Develop and maintain process safety documentation, risk studies and regulatory submissions.
- Provide SME support across engineering design reviews, testing and assurance of critical safety systems.
- Support investigations into process safety incidents and deliver root cause analysis.
- Drive compliance with WHS Regulations, DG Codes and relevant Australian/International Standards.
- Prepare the site for regulatory audits, inspections and safety case obligations.
- Deliver training, process safety reports and lessons‑learned workshops for operators, engineers and leadership.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical or Control Systems Engineering.
- 3–10 years’ experience in fuels, petrochemical, oil & gas, chemical, gas processing or other high-hazard industries.
- Proven experience facilitating HAZOPs, LOPAs, QRAs and leading process safety studies.
- Understanding of DG storage/handling, gas processes, pipelines, fuel systems, SCADA/PLC controls.
- Strong working knowledge of process safety regulatory frameworks in Australia.
Desirable
- Functional Safety qualifications (IEC 61511 / CFSE / CFSP).
- Postgraduate studies in Safety Engineering or Risk Management.
