Postdoc in Modelling of Elastomers and Devices - DTU Chemical Engineering

Are you passionate about computational modelling and elastomeric materials? We are looking for a Postdoc to develop and apply state‑of‑the‑art models for elastomeric materials and related devices – critical components in applications such as soft robotics, sensors, or rubber‑based batteries. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting‑edge research in a highly interdisciplinary environment of the Danish Polymer Centre.

Elastomers’ complex mechanical behavior under varying conditions makes accurate prediction challenging. In this project, you will design and implement advanced modelling approaches — such as finite element analysis — to capture the nonlinear, multi‑physics nature of soft materials. By integrating experimental data and validating simulations, your work will help bridge the gap between theory and application, enabling the design of next‑generation devices.

Responsibilities and qualifications

Your main purpose will be to develop computational models for elastomeric materials and related devices. The role involves close collaboration with experimental researchers and active participation in interdisciplinary research.

- Develop and apply advanced modelling techniques for elastomeric materials and related devices

- Collaborate with experimental teams to validate models and integrate findings

- Publish results in high-impact journals and present at international conferences

- Contribute to project meetings and interdisciplinary research activities

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with:

- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field

- Proven experience in elastomer modelling (Finite Element Analysis, constitutive modelling, or similar)

- Proficiency in simulation tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics, MATLAB, or Python

- Familiarity with device‑level simulations and multi‑physics approaches

- Self‑motivated and able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative research environment

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

We offer

DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years. Starting date is 1 July 2026 or earlier if possible.

Further information

Further information may be obtained from Anne Ladegaard Skov (al@kt.dtu.dk).

Application procedure

Your complete online application must be submitted no later than 12 January 2026 (23:59 Danish time). Applications must be submitted as one PDF file containing all materials to be given consideration. To apply, please open the link “Apply now”, fill out the online application form, and attach all your materials in English in one PDF file. The file must include:

- CV

- Academic Diplomas (MSc/PhD – in English)

- List of publications

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, disability, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply. As DTU works with research in critical technology, which is subject to special rules for security and export control, open‑source background checks may be conducted on qualified candidates for the position.
