Brisbane City Council’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Traineeship Pathway Program is offering a career-starting opportunity in horticulture. You'll work towards a nationally recognised Certificate II in Horticulture, while gaining real-life experience across Brisbane’s parks, gardens, and natural areas.

Your day-to-day tasks may include:
- maintaining gardens, streetscapes, and green spaces
- identifying native and exotic plants
- pruning and planting trees and shrubs
- controlling weeds, pests, and diseases
- using and maintaining horticulture equipment
- keeping public spaces clean, safe, and culturally respected.

What we’re looking for:
- candidates who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- a genuine interest in horticulture, plants, and nature
- reliable and motivated to learn
- open to working outdoors in all weather
- willing to travel across Brisbane (some locations may not be serviced by public transport)
- committed to completing training throughout the year.
At the end of your traineeship, you’ll have:
- a Certificate II in Horticulture (nationally recognised)
- confidence and experience working in a professional Council environment
- a foundation for applying for future employment in Council or the wider industry
- new communication, teamwork, and job-readiness skills
- a supportive professional network.
Please note that you will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment to assess your ability to perform the genuine occupational requirements of the role.
