About the role & key responsibilities

We are currently seeking applications for an experienced and motivated Animal Care Lead Technician to join our team. Our Australian owned farm is continuously growing, therefore opening pathways for future opportunities. Our Lead Technicians report to the Site Leaders. This is a permanent full‑time role located in Girgarre, Victoria.

- Supervise a small team of Animal Care Technicians
- Promote safety within the team
- Lead team talks
- Complete orientation and training of new Animal Care Technicians

Livestock Care

- Tending to routine animal husbandry
- Cleaning and maintaining accommodation pens, fittings and equipment
- Handling and using chemicals
- Operating machinery and equipment
- Caring for the animals including providing feed and water stock
- Caring for sick or injured stock and maintaining herd health status at an acceptable level

Livestock Analysis, Research & Advice

- Maintain standards of quality
- Inspect effectiveness of feed formulae
- Assist in controlled breeding to develop improved livestock strains
- Arrange the supply of drugs, vaccines and other chemicals
- Advise on aspects of production processes and farming techniques

Qualifications & Experience

To be successful within this role you will require a minimum of two years’ experience within a similar role in Piggery operations as well as experience with supervising a small team.

- Demonstrated experience in pig production
- High level of understanding of herd health factors
- Competent knowledge of APIQ & welfare standards
- Strong communication skills
