About the Role
City of Ryde Council in partnership with the NSW Government is offering a Parks and Gardens Apprenticeship position as part of the 'Fresh start for Local Government Apprentices, Trainees and Cadets’ Program.
A Parks and Gardens Apprenticeship is a four‑year apprenticeship program. The successful candidate will join City of Ryde’s City Parks and Open Spaces team which is responsible for the City of Ryde’s sportsgrounds, passive parks and associated buildings.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on experience and a great way to kick‑start your career. You get paid on‑the‑job training, whilst also completing a nationally recognised qualification.
What you’ll bring to the role
- Willingness to enrol and complete a Cert III Park and Gardens qualification
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and operating gardening equipment.
- Strong focus on maintaining the appearance and health of plants, lawns, and garden features.
- Ability to work effectively with other parks and gardens staff in a collaborative environment.
- Willing to learn new skills and participate in business improvement initiatives
- Commitment to workplace safety
- WHS General Construction Induction Card (White Card) or willingness to obtain.
- Current C Class driver's licence (P1 minimum) or ability to obtain.
- Accrue a rostered day off approximately every 3 weeks
- 3 extra grant days at Christmas to ensure you have time to enjoy the holiday
- Annual performance reviews and Award increases

- Various health & well‑being initiatives (i.e. flu vaccinations, skin checks, etc.)
Your commencing salary will be in the range from $25,064 - $49,280 pa + superannuation dependent upon your age and qualifications.
