The Team
This role is part of the Child Safety and Wellbeing Service, which sits within the Department of Health under the Office of the Chief Risk Officer – Recovery & Child Safeguarding. The team’s purpose is to create and maintain a child‑safe culture across all health services, ensuring children and young people feel safe, are safe, and can actively participate in decisions affecting their health.
The team:
- Implements the Child Safety and Wellbeing Framework, embedding the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and the Tasmanian Child and Youth Safe Standards.
- Develops, monitors, and reviews policies and procedures to safeguard children and young people.
- Leads engagement initiatives, including projects that involve children and young people, and supports advisory groups such as the Children and Young People Advisory Group (CYPAG).
- Works collaboratively across health services to promote best practice, compliance, and continuous improvement in child safety.
The environment is dynamic, collaborative, and values‑driven, with a strong focus on policy development, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement to improve outcomes for children and young people in Tasmania.
The Role
The Policy and Project Officer will:
- Contribute significantly to the efficient and effective operation of the Child Safety and Wellbeing Service in the development, implementation and monitoring of policies and procedures.
- Undertake a diverse range of project‑related activities relating to policy, procedures, and administrative systems support.
- Undertake research and analysis to prepare reports relating to child safety and wellbeing key performance indicators and other system information.
Qualifications and Experience
- Provide high‑level analysis of current administrative systems, policies and procedures to ensure consistency and currency. Review, reform and improve operations and services for the unit.
- Undertake qualitative and quantitative research, including collecting, analysing and interpreting data and preparing reports in relation to policy and procedures and administrative systems. Maintain an accurate and comprehensive record‑keeping system that supports continuous service improvement and delivery of services.
- Coordinate and manage project‑related work, liaising closely with key stakeholders to build and maintain positive and productive working relationships by providing innovative options for consideration on matters relating to policy and procedures and administrative systems.

Details of appointment
Fixed term full‑time day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing 5 January 2026 until 30 September 2027.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary
$98,255 to $103,069 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
