About the Role

We have a great 12 month parental leave opportunity for a Senior Legal Counsel at Domain. This is an exciting period of growth, as now being part of the global CoStar Group team, we are looking at exciting new projects and products to take to market. This role will partner with key business stakeholders across Domain, and you’ll be providing legal support to the business to ensure they are legally compliant in its day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

- Identify legal risks in commercial proposals or concepts put forward by the business and work closely with relevant stakeholders to assist them in achieving their commercial goals in a legally compliant manner.
- Understand commercial principals and provide legal advice that is legally sound, practical and commercially viable.
- Review and negotiate data-specific contracts including data licences and data sharing agreements.
- Advise the business on the practical application of current and upcoming privacy laws in relation to Domain’s products and services, including in commercial partnerships.
- Consider and advise on use cases and any applicable parameters or restrictions on the use of data.
- Review and negotiate technology contracts, MSAs, SaaS agreements and general service agreements.
- Advise the business on misleading and deceptive conduct, unfair contract terms, undertake product reviews and attend to front end dispute resolution.

Qualifications

- 5–8 years of experience gained in a reputable law firm, ideally within a Digital and Technology team.
- Prior in‑house experience (as a permanent hire or via secondment) is highly regarded but not essential.
- Exposure to digital or data‑driven businesses and strategic data initiatives is advantageous.
- A confident communicator who works collaboratively and builds strong relationships across teams.
- Comfortable operating in a small legal team, balancing independence with collaboration.
- Flexible and hands‑on – willing to pick up a range of legal tasks as business needs evolve.
- Strong technical skills in areas of contract law, privacy law and consumer law.
- Strong commercial acumen and a business‑focused mind.
- Capable of identifying and assessing risks, making decisions and providing advice which may include suggesting alternative ways forward.
- Good attention to detail.
- Ability to work and thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
- Being a strong and positive team player and business partner.
- Qualified lawyer (LLB or JD) and admitted to practise in Australia.

Nice-to-Have

- Experience with disputes or litigation management.
- Prior in‑house experience within a tech, media or digital business.
