HALT Collective Practitioner
Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.
Overview
The HALT Practitioner role supports the HALT Collective by providing high-quality cultural advice and direction to inform appropriate recommendations that address the safety needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, their children and young people. The role focuses on addressing complex child protection concerns through a culturally strength-based and trauma-informed approach that enhances individuals’ capacity and empowers families to sustain positive changes.
The HALT Collective meetings are characterised by agreement among members, with acknowledgement of different ideas and perspectives and a commitment to reaching agreement prior to proceeding with recommendations. The discussions are held in a safe space that promotes questions and cultural learning, defined by respectful, generous airspace, support, and a strengths-based approach, with open, honest, professional communication. Understanding intergenerational trauma is critical to the success of the HALT Collective, and members consider how today’s decisions affect the trauma narrative of a family. Understanding the best interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children requires participation by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children sits with more than one person or entity in the community. Early intervention is critical to heal and strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to care for their children and ensure they thrive.
