The Bayside Health merger will provide opportunities for training, education and career development. Subject to final approval, all employees from the five health services may transfer to Bayside Health.
Position
We invite applicants for the 12-month Burns Fellow commencing August 2027. This position is based at The Alfred (Adult burns) in Melbourne.
The Victorian Adult Burns Service at The Alfred provides statewide care for adults with complex major burn injuries, education for rural and regional clinicians, and collaboration with community and industry groups on burn awareness campaigns and first aid education.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical care for severely burned patients in Victoria.
- Provide secondary reconstructive surgery in association with the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit.
- Deliver post-operative rehabilitation and scar management services.
- Assess and treat outpatients with minor burns.
- Conduct rostered theatre lists and care for inpatients (elective and non-elective).
- Assess referrals from the Emergency Department and other hospital departments, in hours and after hours.
- Complete a research project during the fellowship (clinical, basic science or translational).
Fellowship aims
The aim of the Fellowship is to foster the development of clinical skills in medical and surgical management of adults with burn injuries, across acute, rehabilitation and secondary reconstructive phases, and to acquire management and research skills to enable the fellow to take up a consultant position in burn surgery on completion.
