We are seeking to establish a pool for Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

About the School: Kenwick School is an independent public school (IPS) that teaches students aged 4 to 19 years with wide-ranging special educational needs, including severe to profound intellectual disabilities, sensory and physical impairments, and other complex medical and behavioural conditions.

The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will work with students with disabilities and additional learning needs. Ideal candidates will be friendly, positive, student-focused and team-spirited. You should be able to deliver and evaluate planned education programs, and possess strong written and oral communication skills. You will collaborate with teachers to help create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program tailored to students’ needs, and you should be well-organised with the ability to use initiative to assist with the learning environment and the general care and well-being of students.

Responsibilities

- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of the learning environment and support the delivery and evaluation of education programs.
- Support teachers in implementing inclusive education practices and therapies as required.
- Contribute to the general health and well-being of students and assist with non-instructional tasks as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

- Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills (including report writing) and ability to interact with students with special needs, parents, teachers, and community members.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and assist in the development and evaluation of education programs, including special education and therapy programs where implemented.
- Ability to assist professionals in implementing and evaluating education programs and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Excellent organisational skills to support delivery of education programs and provide feedback to teachers or psychologists.
- Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.

Eligibility and Compliance

- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
