Overview of the role
Macquarie Geotechnical is a Maas Group (ASX:MGH) company and the largest Geotechnical Company located west of Sydney and regularly work on projects throughout NSW, Queensland and Victoria.
Employing over a hundred staff, comprising of Geotechnical Engineers, Engineering Geologists, Chemists, Geotechnical Drillers, Concrete and Geotechnical Technicians.
Macquarie Geotechnical operates offices and NATA accredited laboratories in the Central West of New South Wales, Sydney, Gold Coast, Rockhampton and Melbourne East areas.
Due to increasing demand for our services, we are currently seeking an experienced Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team located in Bathurst, NSW.
Overview of the role:
Reporting to the General Manager, the Health and Safety Coordinator collaborates and partners with the Laboratory Managers and Project Managers to develop and implement Health and Safety systems and strategies that enables a positive safety culture to keep our people safe, healthy and well.
The role is responsible for performing the delivery of diverse and contemporary safety approaches and practices within the geotechnical arm of the business, at specific facilities and various projects across the East coast of Australia.
This is a hands-on role, in a fast-moving work environment and you will be promoting and supporting a strong health, safety and environment culture across our workforce.
Duties include (but not limited to):
- The Health and Safety Coordinator will lead the implementation of Health and Safety strategies to ensure works are delivered in line with legislative, Group and client requirements.
- The Health and Safety Coordinator will lead the development of internal documentation and safety systems to achieve ISO accreditation.
- Conduct Risk Assessments, SWMS, hazard reporting and proactive safety measures.
- Maintain Health and Safety reporting systems and actively engage with workers to facilitate a reporting culture to monitor incidents and injuries and identify risks.
- Conduct internal audit and site inspections across all facilities and project sites including the preparation and submission to the relevant parties.
- Collaborate with workers to improve the identification of hazards and risks, liaise with stakeholders in the development and review of relevant safety strategies to manage areas of non-compliance.
- Assist with Return-to-Work Coordination when required for specific operations.
- Conduct Health Safety and Environmental performance monitoring internally and to the client’s requirements.
- Assist the laboratories with EPA requirements for storing and managing radioactive devices.
- Assist with onboarding of new employees to MacGeo safety policies and procedures.
- Undertake and run safety training sessions.
To be successful in this role you will need:
- Strong understanding of Work Health and Safety Legislation.
- Strong knowledge of acts, regulations codes of practice and standards.
- Operating knowledge and/or Health and Safety experience in laboratories; geotechnical engineering or drilling services preferred but not essential.
- Experience in Health and Safety, preferably on project work.
- Intermediate computer literacy in Microsoft Office programs and systems.
- Well-organised professional with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to be self-directed.
- Excellent attention to detail a must.
- Be self-motivated with the ability to handle, organise and prioritise multiple projects/tasks and able to perform under pressure to meet deadlines, where required.
