Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. This is a temporary maternity relief position for 28 weeks anticipated to commence from 27 January 2026. The position will be primarily located at Nepean Hospital within the Department of Renal Medicine and the successful applicant will be part of the Western Renal Service, networked across NBMLHD and Western Sydney Local Health District to provide transplantation, dialysis and kidney supportive care services.

The appointee will provide both inpatient and outpatient services at Nepean Hospital; outpatient services at the Penrith Community Dialysis Centre, the Katoomba Community Dialysis Centre in the Blue Mountains and at other public specialist Renal Clinics within NBMLHD; and will participate in NBMLHD Renal Medicine on-call rosters as directed by the Department Head of Renal Medicine at Nepean Hospital. Credentialing and privileges across NBMLHD facilities will be sought as the primary responsibility is to provide comprehensive in-patient and out-patient renal services to the community across NBMLHD.

Qualifications and experience (essential)

- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) with experience and expertise in Renal medicine.
- Procedural skills in ultrasound-guided kidney biopsies and insertion of tunneled and non-tunneled hemodialysis catheters.
- Track record in research and publications in Nephrology.
- Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision of junior medical staff, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Training or experience in Obstetric Medicine (desirable) and credentialing in Obstetric Medicine will involve on-call Obstetric Medicine duties where applicable.

Additional information

- Possess or be eligible for registration with AHPRA.
- Participation in the Departmental on-call schedules and credentialing within NBMLHD as the primary role is in comprehensive renal care.
- Training and/or experience in Obstetric Medicine is desirable.

Working arrangements and conditions are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997 and Staff Specialists (State) Award. NSW Health Code of Conduct applies. A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required. Vaccinations may be required prior to commencing employment.
