The Staff Mobile Engineer is a senior-level position responsible for leading the development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of mobile applications for early-stage ventures. As a key member of the core Launchpad engineering team, you will play a critical role in shaping the mobile strategy, mentoring other engineers, and making architectural decisions that impact multiple ventures across diverse industries. This role requires deep technical expertise, leadership abilities, and a strategic mindset to drive high-impact projects from concept to completion. Leadership experience is essential, as you will be expected to guide and mentor engineering teams, ensuring the successful delivery of complex mobile projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead Mobile Application Development:
-Architect, develop, test, maintain, and deploy mobile applications across a variety of ventures, ensuring high performance, scalability, and seamless user experiences.
-Take ownership of the end-to-end product delivery process, including security considerations, code reviews, testing, quality assurance, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).

Strategic and Architectural Leadership:
- Make foundational architectural decisions and define the technical roadmaps for early-stage ventures, ensuring that they align with business goals and long-term scalability.
-Identify opportunities for innovation and lead efforts to continuously improve engineering practices within Launchpad, enhancing the quality and impact of the products delivered.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with backend developers, product designers, and founder teams to design, launch, and grow mobile applications that meet the needs of diverse user bases.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across teams to ensure the successful delivery of high-impact applications.

Mentorship and Team Development:
- Mentor and onboard new team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Lead by example in promoting best practices, driving the adoption of new technologies, and encouraging a collaborative, innovative work environment.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Drive innovation by staying up-to-date with the latest mobile technologies, frameworks, and best practices, and assessing their applicability to Launchpad’s ventures.
- Take the initiative to explore and implement improvements in mobile development processes, ensuring that Launchpad’s engineering practices remain at the forefront of the industry.

Qualifications:

Experience:
• 8+ years of experience in mobile application development (Android/iOS/Flutter), with a proven track record of building and launching successful mobile products.
• 3+ years in a leadership or senior engineering role, with experience mentoring engineers and leading complex mobile projects.
• Extensive experience working in product-focused startups, with a strong understanding of building user-friendly applications from zero.
• Deep knowledge of Flutter/Dart, including the development of 2+ mobile applications using Flutter (experience with Bloc is a plus).
• Proficient in utilizing mobile ecosystems, Firebase, and other Google/Apple services to create integrated user experiences.

Technical Skills:
• Strong understanding of service-oriented architecture (e.g., REST, OpenAPI/Swagger).
• Experience in applying design systems and ensuring component reuse across applications.
• Proven ability to set up release trains and CI/CD pipelines for mobile codebases.
• Expertise in writing testable code and applying unit, functional, and integration tests across the mobile development lifecycle.

Soft Skills:
• Exceptional critical thinking abilities, with the capacity to analyse complex problems and devise innovative solutions.
• Strong cross-functional communication skills, capable of effectively collaborating with diverse teams.
• Ability to quickly learn and continuously upskill in unfamiliar areas, driving both personal and team growth.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience as a team lead or SCRUM master, with a focus on guiding engineering teams through complex projects.
• Contributions to open-source projects or publications in IT.
• A degree in computer science or a related discipline is a plus.
• Japanese language skills are a plus.
