MCPS Official Job Description
Summary Description:
Under the direction of the middle school principal, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for adolescent students. Works with interdisciplinary teams to foster a school culture conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of adolescents, ensuring success for every student. Supervises middle school students in various school-related settings. Communicates and collaborates with students, staff, parents, and community members. Develops, selects, and differentiates instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all middle school students. Maintains appropriate records, follows required procedures, and uses data analysis to monitor student achievement. Monitors the proper use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
Physical Demands: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
Special Requirements: Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of adolescent development, content expertise, and MCPS curriculum and policies. Commitment to high expectations for all learners. Ability to use various instructional and behavioral management strategies suitable for middle school adolescents, integrating reading, writing, math, and technology across content areas. Ability to self-reflect for continuous improvement. Effective collaboration with administrators, colleagues, staff, students, parents, and community. Excellent communication skills. Commitment to diversity and serving as an advocate and role model. Knowledge of the six performance standards for MCPS Teacher Growth System (TPGS) and Supporting Services (SEIU) Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education, Training, and Experience: Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of education from an accredited institution, with knowledge of adolescent learners. Meets Maryland state certification requirements in the appropriate field.
