About the Role

Reporting to the Vice‑Chancellor, the Chief Advancement Officer will shape and lead Deakin University’s entire advancement portfolio, encompassing philanthropy, alumni engagement, and advancement operations. As the University prepares to launch a major Campaign in late 2025, this pivotal role will set the strategic direction for Deakin’s fundraising and engagement initiatives, fostering a culture of transformational giving that advances the University’s vision and impact. Leading a high performing team, the appointee will personally manage a portfolio of principal donors, partner closely with academic leaders to identify and develop fundable priorities, and ensure the systems, people, and processes underpinning advancement are world‑class.

About You

You are an accomplished advancement leader with significant experience securing principal and major gifts, ideally within higher education or a similarly complex mission‑driven environment. You bring a deep understanding of philanthropic trends, alumni engagement, and the strategic levers that drive sustainable growth. A persuasive communicator and trusted collaborator, you excel in engaging diverse stakeholders, from donors and alumni to academic and community partners. With a track record of leading and inspiring high-performing teams, you combine strategic insight with analytical acumen to deliver measurable results and enduring relationships.
