Melbourne, Australia Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Full time

At HDR, we specialise in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services. While we are most well-known for adding beauty and structure to communities through high-performance buildings and smart infrastructure, we provide much more than that. We create an unshakable foundation for progress because our multidisciplinary teams also include scientists, economists, builders, analysts and artists.

HDR supports an inclusive and diverse work environment and is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians and people of culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.

We believe that the way we work can add meaning and value to the world. That ideas inspire positive change. That colouring outside the lines can illuminate fresh perspectives. And that small details yield important realisations. Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.

Be part of HDR’s growing Transport Structures team in Melbourne, delivering bridge and transport structure design across Australia with opportunities to contribute to projects overseas. We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer who is chartered and registered as a Professional Engineer in Victoria (RPEV) and is ready to lead technical delivery on a diverse range of challenging projects.

The Role

This hands-on role will see you design complex bridges and transport structures with limited supervision, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead technical delivery of bridge and transport structure projects, applying both standard and advanced engineering techniques
- Develop design solutions, prepare drawings, calculations, and specifications for a variety of structural forms including reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and steel
- Perform structural planning, analysis, and design for transport infrastructure projects
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and contractors to ensure project success
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers, fostering their technical growth
- Manage mid-size projects
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives within HDR’s Bridges and Structures Business Class
- Drive safety and quality leadership aligned with HDR’s “Drive to Zero” initiative
- Representing HDR at industry technical seminars and promoting a positive, inclusive culture aligned with HDR values

About You

- Typically, a minimum of 7 years’ professional experience in structural engineering, focusing on bridges
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related discipline
- Chartered member of Engineers Australia and Registered Professional Engineer Victoria (RPEV)
- Experience in project management, including commercial, administrative, and technical aspects (highly regarded). Proven ability to successfully lead small project teams
- Proficient in structural analysis and design software such as Midas Civil, SpaceGass, Strand 7, SBD, Excel, and an interest in parametric modelling
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and drive innovation in design and delivery
- Self-motivated with a growth mindset and passion for continuous learning
- Commitment to active participation in HDR’s employee-owned culture

Why Join Us?

At HDR, we believe in making great things possible through collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity. You’ll join a growing Victorian team that supports career growth and technical excellence while working on a wide variety of transport infrastructure projects across Australia and internationally.

If you’re ready to develop your career with purpose and make your mark on the future of our communities we want to hear from you.
