**Position Information**:
Jesmond Public School is located in the Newcastle area and is a partner school in the Callaghan College of Schools. The school was established in 1887 and now accommodates a highly diverse student body, diverse both culturally and socio-economically. Currently, the school has an enrolment of 214 students from diverse backgrounds and cultures. 12% of our students identify as Aboriginal and 69% of students are from backgrounds where English is an additional language or dialect.

Jesmond is supported by an active school community who contribute through the school Parents and Citizens Association and program involvement. The Community Languages Schools' program operates Arabic and Bengali classes. The school has nine mainstream classes and a regional support class. The teaching staff is committed to achieving high quality outcomes for all students and offering a broad range of extra curricula activities.

**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Capacity to support and engage a diverse learning community and lead culturally competent teaching and wellbeing programs that meet the individualised needs of students
- Capacity to lead a culture of collective efficacy and improvement, balanced with the demands of managing school systems in a complex setting
- A visible, collaborative and approachable leader who ensures every student is known valued and cared for

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
