The 3D Culture Laboratory (3DC) operates under the Katharina Gaus Light Microscopy Facility (KGLMF). The KGLMF is a multi-user facility residing within the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre (MWAC) in the Division of Research and Enterprise at UNSW. The facility is a platform for researchers to gain access to a comprehensive suite of advanced microscopy and biological techniques, and associated expertise. The facility supports and collaborates with a variety of research groups in the Faculties of Science, Medicine and Health, and Engineering at UNSW, as well as groups at other universities, health districts and research institutes in Australia and overseas. The 3DC Laboratory is the latest addition to the KGLMF, enabling the support and acceleration of organoid and other 3D culture technologies for research and industry partners.

A Research Manager will manage the operations of the 3DCL, including the development of policies and procedures of the laboratory to ensure effective generation and maintenance of organoid cultures for researchers of UNSW, members of the local Health District and industry.

The role reports to Head of the Katharina Gaus Light Microscopy Facility and will have three direct reports.

**Responsibilities**
- Develop and implement guidelines, processes and procedures that align and support the research activities of the 3D culture laboratory and its users.
- Manage the laboratory processes and liaise with researchers to oversee the training of users and day to day staff activity in generating organoids.
- Initiate and facilitate access for the collection, derivation, differentiation, and analysis of a generated organoids into a specimen bank.
- Consult, liaise, and develop strong relationships with stakeholders, the head of the KGLMF, the Scientific Advisory Board and the academic director to achieve research outcomes and establish priorities for the laboratory.
- Lead the research support team with supervision of other research staff and students.
- Represent the 3D culture Laboratory at other UNSW work areas, advisory groups, meetings, and other activities and manage other MWAC research activities as required.
- Establish and manage the operations model, purchasing, procurement and budget for the laboratory.

**Skills and Experience**
- Degree in Medical Sciences or similar with relevant graduate experience in the theories and principles relating to organoid production and use.
- Extensive experience in managing a PC2 laboratory space, including all aspects of health and safety responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience working in a multiuser facility.
- Demonstrated experience in budget management and procurement.
- Demonstrated experience in the derivation, differentiation, and maintenance of organoid cultures.
- Experience in genetic modification of organoids or other 3D cultures
- A strong track record in creating research protocols and resolving problems related to design, implementation, and analysis or organoid cultures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
