Kay Brothers Pty Ltd is an iconic McLaren Vale winery still under founding family control after 132 years. We produce small batch premium quality McLaren Vale wines, predominately Shiraz and Grenache, and are looking for a hand’s on “Vintage Assistant Winemaker” to work closely with the Head Winemaker during the 2023 vintage. The role is a combination of winemaking tasks and cellar work. A focus on attention to detail and a passion for the wine industry is essential.

Vintage Assistant Winemaker, reporting to the Head Winemaker. A range of tasks that may include but not limited to:

- Fermentation monitoring, tasting and data recording
- Laboratory work
- Yeast preparation
- Press operation
- Fruit receival & de-stemming
- Hand plunging and digging out 3T open fermenters
- Operate pumps, perform transfers, rackings and pump overs
- Oak/barrel work
- Cleaning

This role is a temporary casual position that runs for 12 weeks, commencing in late February/early March 2023.

Job Requirements

A degree in Oenology or equivalent.

Previous vintage experience essential with the ability to work effectively in a small team.

A current driver’s licence is essential and a current forklift licence would be advantageous.

Applicants must have Australian citizenship/residency or a valid current Australian work visa.
