About the role
This program sits in within The Salvation Army Karinya Support Services Ballarat suite of programs. Programs in Ballarat offer support to young mums/couples with children or in their last trimester of pregnancy; homelessness support to women with accompanying children; children’s support; peer mentor program to primary and secondary school children; occasional Child Care Centre and the Ballarat North Neighbourhood House.
Taking up the role of student case worker in Supported Housing for Families, students undertaking placement at this Service will gain valuable experience in a variety of practical and administrative activities to support the Centre, whilst also meeting the competency requirements of their tertiary studies. This placement is aimed at students who are currently studying in a relevant field and have a strong interest in Homelessness, Family Violence and child wellbeing. This placement is for a fixed term according to the student’s course requirements.
- Key responsibilities- Meet with work placement supervisor regularly to plan and discuss required placement activities and for supervision to meet professional development capabilities.-
- Students will observe and support the programs and activities by practically assisting with the smooth running of programs as well providing administrative support, including;-
- following case management policies and procedures-
- case noting-
- exploring referral brokerage and funding pathways-
- Maintain confidentiality of interactions and information-
- Keep children safe by always abiding by Salvation Army’s child safe policies and code of conduct- Qualifications and skills (desired/required)- Be enrolled in a recognised Tertiary Educational Institute / RTO and enter into a formal Placement Agreement with The Salvation Army (TSA)-
- Keen interest in the challenges and opportunities of working with families affected by Homelessness and Family ViolenceCapabilities and personal attributes
