**Our Exciting Opportunity**:
Captioners are responsible for providing captions for a wide range of television programming and other audio-visual media in a way that conveys the intentions and information of the program to viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing, or otherwise reliant on the service. A demonstrably good understanding of English spelling and grammar is critical.

Live captions are produced primarily using voice recognition software and a process called respeaking. As well as repeating words, captioners speak punctuation and other commands to create captions in real time for live broadcast programs such as news and sport.

Pre-recorded captions are time-coded to ensure subtitles match the audio track. In addition to the words themselves, file captioners need to consider factors such as reading speeds, descriptive labels, and how best to convey the feel of a program.

Our production teams operate in the broadcast environment, providing services (almost) 24 hours a day, including weekends and public holidays. Captioners must be prepared and able to work to rosters covering a range of shifts which have early starts or late finishes. Full time Captioners are rostered for 36 hours across 4 days each week. Prospective captioners should note that shifts may need to be varied according to operational need and that, while rosters are issued in advance, late changes are sometimes requested to cover client needs.

**In this role, you would**:

- Create clear, easy-to-read captions using a variety of software
- Become familiar with a range of captioning techniques, including pre-prepared captioning and respeaking
- Work accurately and calmly to very tight deadlines, including captioning live-to-air
- Work together with other captioners in a remote environment
- Proofread, review, and correct your work, as well as others’, to ensure a consistently high standard
- Take ownership for the quality and timely delivery of your work
- Excellent standard of English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Meticulous attention to detail
- High level of computer literacy and ability to learn new software
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to learn different captioning techniques through remote training
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently to deadlines
- Openness to constructive feedback
