Legal Officer

**About the Role**:
We are seeking a dynamic and committed Legal Officer to join Baptcare's legal team, to help make a difference to the significant outcomes of this growing, for-purpose organisation.

The Legal Officer will lead the delivery of client and business focused legal and commercial services to Baptcare staff to meet priority legal service needs. They will also undertake legal research, provide clear legal analysis and draft accurate, timely and consistent legal and commercial advice across Baptcare’s operational and corporate divisions to support decision making and assist with the effective resolution of identified legal issues. Operational areas include aged care, retirement living, human services, disability, mental health and affordable housing.

**About You**:
You will have 2-3+ years of post-qualification experience, ideally supporting sectors within which Baptcare operates as in-house counsel or from private practice. You will be an asset to a team which interacts broadly across the organisation and has wide-ranging exposure to many and varied legal and commercial matters, to support the continued growth of the organisation and positive outcomes for its clients.

**Essential Qualifications**:
Relevant tertiary qualification in Law

Admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and holds a full or corporate current practicing certificate

**Key Selection Criteria**:
Strong legal research and statutory interpretation skills

Demonstrated ability to provide practical legal and commercial advice and exercise sound legal judgement

Demonstrated experience in dealing with or advising on organisational legal compliance issues, including commercial, IP and contract related matters

Proven ability to engage and influence a diverse group of stakeholders

Well-developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills with strong commercial judgement and decision making ability

Excellent negotiation and dispute resolution skills

Listens, summarises and further develops and progresses ideas received from others

Shows confidence, maturity, integrity and a high level of energy, enthusiasm and drive

High level communication and facilitation skills

High level planning and organisation skills

Strong people management and leadership ability
