**Role**:
The **Professional Practice and Mentoring Leader** is accountable to the Assistant Principal responsible for Staff Development.

This Learning Specialist is an integral component of the School Improvement team and Curriculum team. The Learning Specialist will work closely with Sub School Leaders, Director of Learning
- Data Assessment and Operations, the Director of Learning Curriculum as well as other members of the Leadership team to embed a whole College approach to the Lets Learn Instructional Model. This Learning Specialist will also oversee the Beginning Teacher and VIT programs in the College.

**Responsibilities include**:

- Coaching teachers as identified with specific areas of need to support them to meet their responsibilities as outlined in the relevant AITSL standards
- Work with teaching staff of the College to embed the Lets Learn Instructional Model
- Contribute to the College Induction and Mentoring Process
- Supporting teachers to improve their practice with areas of focus identified by the teacher and in line with the improvement goals outlined in the Strategic Plan
- Mentoring graduate teachers and supporting them to meet the requirements of their VIT registration and act as the panel chair for all VIT panels in the College
- Be an active leader within our Professional Learning Communities approach
- Continue to work with teaching teams to embed the PLC initiative; undertaking responsibilities as required to meet identified goals
- Model and share teaching expertise in classrooms and professional learning sessions
- Attend relevant professional learning, including network meetings
- Other duties as directed by the Principal

**Responsibilities**:
In recognition of the importance of exemplary practice for improved student learning outcomes, the key roles of the Learning Specialists may include but are not limited to:

- Demonstrating high-level expertise in teaching and learning practice
- Modelling exemplary classroom practice including through teaching demonstration lessons
- Working with the school leadership team to develop a shared view of highly effective teacher practice
- Leading and modelling the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies related to curriculum planning and delivery
- Playing a key role in the provision of professional learning, including through developing processes and protocols for observation and feedback of teacher practice and peer collaboration
- Modelling effective learning practice and supporting teachers to seek, analyse and act on feedback and on their practice
- Providing evidence-based feedback to teaching staff to inform their effectiveness and development
- Providing expert advice about the context, processes and strategies that will shape individual and school professional learning
- Supervising and training one or more student teachers and mentoring and/or coaching teachers
- Modelling exemplary use of student data to inform teaching approaches
- Developing and promoting school-wide professional learning structures, processes and protocols through Professional Learning Communities
- Modelling exemplary professional learning practice included through seeking feedback from other teachers and leaders on their own classroom practice as part of critical reflection and inquiry to improve practice
