**Role**:
The assistant principal reports directly to the principal.

Assistant principals have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. In exercising the responsibility, assistant principals will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget. Assistant principals will contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making.

The management of significant school program or functional areas in schools involve assistant principals in the analysis of the needs of students and the translation of state educational policy and frameworks into appropriate education programs to meet the needs of all students.

Typically assistant principals will be responsible for the effective use of the teaching staff and program budget of a defined area of the school's operation and for the oversight and leadership of the educational programs provided utilising these resources.

**The Strategic Assistant Principal** will lead and collaborate with staff a whole school focus to develop and implement improvement initiatives including:

- Develop and consolidate the WHS STEAM Vision and implement a STEAM program curriculum at WHS.
- Co-lead the development of the WHS Data Dashboard and implement strategies & protocols to ensure effective student, staff and parent interaction with the dashboard.
- Support the Leadership Team in the use of Student Learning and Attitudinal Data to enhance Teaching & Learning Programs across the school.
- Coordinate and support the implementation of the value-add programs at WHS. Such as MYLNS, HAS, Homework/Alumni Club, STEAM Club, STEM Mentoring and Tutoring Program.
- Oversee the staff induction program for new staff and the VIT mentoring and accreditation process.
- Facilitate the annual development of the AIP with the Leadership Team aligned to the SSP with sufficient flexibility to meet the needs of WHS. Including coordinating the School Review as required.
- Oversee DET School Operations to ensure WHS meets all Minimum Standards and maintains correct school registration with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA).
- Lead the implementation of First Nations Australians awareness initiatives for both WHS and wider school community.
- Oversee the whole school publications including Hightide, Yearly Planner and the WHS Website.
- Oversee the PST placement program.
- Coordinate staff professional learning (including Performance & Development, Curriculum Days, PD Tracker, PL Week, and First Aid Training).

**KRAs**
- Lead the ongoing development of the WHS Data Dashboard to support student learning including that a guaranteed and viable assessment schedule is in place.
- Support all staff to analyse data (WHS Data Dashboard, Panorama, attitudes data, VCE, VCAL, VET & NAPLAN) across the school to inform curriculum, teaching and learning and student engagement and wellbeing practices.
- Effective value add programs are operating.
- An effective staff induction and VIT process operates throughout the school.
