**About NDARC**:
The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) was established at the University of New South Wales by the Commonwealth Government in 1986 to extend the knowledge base required for effective treatment of individuals with alcohol and other drug related problems and to enhance the overall research capacity in the drug and alcohol field. The Centre is highly regarded, both nationally and internationally, for its contribution to drug and alcohol research.
**Why Your Role Matters**:
The Communications and Events Officer provides valuable input within the NDARC Communications team through coordination of a range of events including webinars, meetings, workshops, and conferences, and the creation and maintenance of content across the Centre’s communications channels. The Communications and Events Officer will assist with media liaison and stakeholder engagement activities and provide support and advice to NDARC research staff and project teams.
**Responsibilities**:
- Coordinate internal and external NDARC events (NDARC Webinar Series, Learning and Development Workshops, Presentation Practice Sessions and other events as required).
- Assist with coordination of the NDARC Annual Research Symposium.
- Create content for NDARC communications channels including the NDARC website, social media accounts, newsletters (NDARC internal newsletter, NDARC external newsletter, UNSW Medicine and Health newsletter, Drug and Alcohol Research Connections) and intranet by required deadlines.
- Upload approved content to the NDARC and UNSW websites and NDARC intranet, and schedule social media content on Facebook and Twitter.
- Assist Senior Communications Officer with proactive and reactive media activity.
- Design, plan and coordinate external engagement events/activities as required, working closely with NDARC’s Centre Manager and Office of Director.
**Who You Are**:
- Degree in communications, event management or a related field and/or at least 3 years’ experience in communications and events, preferably in the health or tertiary education field.
- Demonstrated experience in hosting and coordinating events in both online (Microsoft Teams and Zoom) and face to face formats.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills, including proven ability to write effective content across traditional and digital communications channels.
- Demonstrated expertise in working collaboratively and building and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to make public presentations and to represent the Centre with outside agencies.
- Ability to work as part of a team and the flexibility to respond to a diversity of projects.
