About us
The County Court of Victoria is the principal trial court in the State of Victoria. The Court hears and determines criminal, common law and commercial matters. The Court hears more than 12,000 cases per year across the three divisions.
About the role
We are seeking to appoint an Associate to support her Honour Judge Davis at the County Court of Victoria for a fixed term contract of 12 months (with the possibility to extend for a further 12 months).
Her Honour Judge Davis hears matters in both the Common Law and Criminal Divisions. This is an exciting opportunity in the legal profession to build on your legal experience whilst contributing to critical service delivery at the County Court.
As her Honour's Associate, you will provide high level operational, administrative and technical legal support to Judge Davis both in chambers and in Court and will work closely with another associate. Your role will involve case file management, a strong emphasis on communication at all levels and may include legal research and writing. The work of the team sits within a complex, demanding and sensitive environment.
About you
Ideally you will have demonstrated legal ability, an interest in the work of both the Common Law and Criminal Divisions of the Court, a high level of attention to detail, excellent organisational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, the ability to communicate intelligently and with discretion on matters relating to court processes, exercise sound judgement, and balance competing demands on your time and work well under pressure.
The County Court regularly conducts circuit sittings in multiple regional cities throughout Victoria. Judge Davis and her staff usually undertake two such circuits of several weeks' duration each year.
