The Fraud Investigation Branch assists in protecting the integrity of Commonwealth outlays administered by the agency and agency appropriations. The branch is primarily involved in detecting and investigating cases of fraud relating to Medicare, Child Support and welfare programs. The branch’s intelligence functions use intelligence-gathering capabilities to identify and manage risks of exploitation of programs administered by the agency.

Fraud is addressed through proactive intelligence strategies, sophisticated analysis and the production of high quality intelligence assessments to support the agency's investigations.

The Forensic Services Section (FSS) is part of the Fraud Control and Investigations Division and supports the division's fraud compliance strategy to maintain its payment integrity. The section offers digital forensic services to the agency and other stakeholder agencies by assisting with criminal search warrants and internal investigations Australia-wide.

Digital forensics is a recognised scientific methodology used by the FSS to examine electronic evidence to support the agencies fraud investigations. The team’s principle objective is to provide expert computer knowledge and assistance to agency investigators during search warrant executions. The work of the team involves the triage, seizure, acquisition, analysis, reporting of digital evidence, and supporting this in court.

A Digital Forensics Officer works under the support and general direction of senior staff to aid the agency's fraud strategy through the delivery of forensic services. The Digital Forensics Officer will support key stakeholders and represent the agency by exercising a degree of independent judgement and make decisions related to digital evidence and operational support with accountability and professionalism.

**Work Environment**

The role will require a current driver's license and frequent interstate travel.
