As a Carer Consultant at the Repat Neuro-Behavioural Unit (RNBU), you'll be part of a service that provides high-quality, compassionate care to individuals living with dementia and severe behavioural and psychological symptoms, ensuring their specialized needs are met. Your role will involve placing the person at the centre of individualized care, strongly engaging with carers and loved ones throughout the consumer's journey, while ensuring care is respectful and responsive to preferences, needs, and values. You'll be part of a team that values relationship-centred care, with intensive onboarding and ongoing professional development to support alignment with this culture.
**About the role**:
Reporting to the Allied Health Manager - RNBU, some of your duties as the Carer Consultant may involve:
- Representing the point of view of family/carers at team planning and service planning activities and actively contributing by promoting needs of family/carers.
- Contribute to a multidisciplinary assessment of strengths, support needs and goals of the person with a mental illness, with family members.
- Recognise a relationship centred approach where individuals are understood within a matrix of relationships through which they experience their lives.
- Contribute to care planning, wellbeing reviews and coordination of a person’s treatment and support, maintaining connected relationships with the family/carer.
- Provide family/carers with written information and resources of relevance including the illness and supports.

**About you**:
- Experience in community development and advocacy within a human services context.
- Lived experience as a carer of someone with dementia or a consumer of mental health services or programs.
- Demonstrated commitment to, empathy for, and appreciation of, the experience of caring for a person living with a dementia or a mental health diagnosis
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with a wide range of people from differing cultural/language/sexuality/health backgrounds.
- Ability to work autonomously and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
